Siofok
Siófok
Siófok is the biggest and most popular of Balaton’s resorts, easily accessed by train from Budapest and well provided with camping facilities and resort and spa hotels. It caters both for families and the young party set, with several large bathing stretches, ample opportunity for watersports and a host of bars, restaurants, snack shacks and nightclubs. Bustling and upbeat, there is always something going on – day or night.
Those with energy to burn take to the water for sailing or wakeboarding, while daredevil spirits try their hands at bungee jumping and others just paddle at the water’s edge or relax in the sun with a beer. Away from the shore, there is a reptile house and a museum devoted to the composer Imre Kálmán, and to the west of town at Töreki a nature conservation area offering the chance for peaceful walks and picnics. The evening sees the bars and restaurants burst into life, while dedicated night owls are drawn by the clarion call of international DJs at the Palace Disco or Flört Club – and the promise of dancing into the early hours!
